Halal Brand Guide

Maggi (Nestlé) products sold in the UK are not halal-certified for the standard retail range. Some products contain meat flavourings or E635 from undisclosed sources. In Muslim-majority markets (Pakistan, Malaysia, Gulf), Maggi products carry local halal certification. UK consumers should check individual labels.

Switzerland · Instant noodles, Stock cubes

McCoy's (KP Snacks) Flame Grilled Steak crisps contain beef flavouring and may contain pork derivatives in the flavouring blend — no halal certification and no source disclosure. Original and Salt & Vinegar flavours contain no meat flavouring and are cleaner, but the brand as a whole carries no halal certification.

McCain frozen chips, wedges, and potato products are made from potatoes, sunflower oil, and salt — no animal fat, no lard, no haram additives. No halal certification is held, but the ingredient list is transparent and the products are widely accepted as halal. A very popular choice for halal households.

Canada · Oven chips, Frozen fries

Chewy Mentos rolls sold in the UK and Europe contain gelatine whose animal source is not declared — it may be pork-derived, making them Mushbooh. Hard mint Mentos typically contain no gelatine but carry no halal certification. Mentos manufactured in Malaysia is JAKIM halal-certified and genuinely permissible.

Netherlands · Chewy mint rolls, Fruit chew rolls

Milka chocolate (Mondelez International) contains E476 (PGPR — polyglycerol polyricinoleate) whose source is not disclosed for UK and European products. Mondelez holds no halal certification for Milka in the UK. The brand is Mushbooh for UK Muslim consumers until the emulsifier source is confirmed or certification is obtained.

Monster Energy (Coca-Cola) contains taurine, an amino acid that can be derived from animal bile or synthetically. Monster does not disclose the source for UK products. Moo Free is a UK free-from chocolate brand made with rice milk instead of dairy. All Moo Free products are dairy-free, gluten-free, soya-free, and free from animal-derived additives. No E441 (gelatine), E120 (cochineal), or undisclosed animal emulsifiers. Suitable for halal consumers, though the brand has not pursued formal halal certification.

Mr Kipling (Premier Foods) is not suitable for halal consumers. French Fancies contain E120 (carmine — derived from cochineal insects, haram). Other products across the range contain E471 (mono and diglycerides of fatty acids) from undisclosed sources. No halal certification is held. Mr Kipling products should be avoided by Muslim consumers.

Müller (Müller UK & Ireland) products vary in halal status. Some Müller Corner and Müller Rice variants contain gelatine from undisclosed sources. No halal certification is held. Nando's UK restaurants source halal-certified chicken across virtually all UK locations — confirmed by the company and widely accepted by the Muslim community. Nando's retail sauces and marinades (PERi-PERi sauce, marinades) contain no alcohol or animal-derived additives and are halal.

Nature Valley (General Mills) granola bars are made from whole grain oats, honey, and vegetable oil — no animal fat, gelatine, or haram additives. No halal certification is held, but the plant-based formulation is widely accepted as halal.

United States · Granola bars, Protein bars

Nutella (Ferrero) contains hazelnuts, skim milk, cocoa, palm oil, and soy lecithin. No pork derivatives, no alcohol, no animal fat emulsifiers. While Nutella holds no UK halal certification, the ingredients are permissible under mainstream Sunni halal standards. The product is widely accepted as halal by Muslim consumers globally.
