Important information about using the service
General Information
HalalCodeCheck ("we", "us", or "our") is a free educational tool to help you identify and understand the halal status of food additives (E-codes), ingredients, and products. While we strive for accuracy, the information is a guide and should not be the sole basis for religious dietary decisions.
No Certification, Fatwa or Professional Advice
We do not issue halal certificates or fatwas, and we are not a substitute for a qualified scholar, a recognised certification authority, manufacturer confirmation, medical advice, or allergy advice. Our assessments are informational classifications made under our published methodology, not binding rulings.
Allergy & Health Warning
Halal assessments do not address allergens, intolerances, nutritional suitability, contamination risks, or medical requirements. If you have allergies or medical dietary needs, do not rely on this site — always check current manufacturer information and seek appropriate professional advice.
No Guarantee of Accuracy
Our classifications are based on publicly available information and research from various sources. We cannot guarantee:
- 100% accuracy of all E-code or product classifications
- That manufacturing processes or recipes haven't changed
- That source ingredients remain consistent across all manufacturers
- That label scanning will capture all ingredients accurately
Product & Market Variation
Information may apply only to a specific country, formulation, flavour, package size, manufacturing facility, or date. A verdict for one market or variant should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.
Mushbooh Classification
Items marked "Mushbooh" (doubtful/questionable) may be derived from halal or haram sources depending on the manufacturer, and require additional verification. The permissibility of mushbooh items varies among different schools of thought.
Label Scanning Technology Limitations
Our label scanning may not perfectly capture all text from product labels. Factors affecting accuracy include image quality, lighting, label design, and text size. Always manually verify detected ingredients and E-codes against the original label.
Verification Recommendation
We strongly recommend that you verify halal status with:
- Official halal certification bodies in your region
- Trusted Islamic religious authorities
- Product manufacturers directly
- Established halal certification labels on products
Third-Party Links & Transactions
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, safety, delivery, returns, or practices of third-party websites, retailers, manufacturers, or certification bodies that we link to or reference.
No Affiliation or Endorsement
References to brands, certification bodies, religious organisations, and trademarks are for identification and informational purposes only and do not imply affiliation, endorsement, or approval unless expressly stated.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude liability for losses arising from reliance on information provided through the service. You are responsible for your own dietary choices and should exercise your own judgement and due diligence. Nothing here excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Updates and Changes
We continuously update our database to reflect new information and research. However, we cannot guarantee that all information is current at all times. Classifications and sources may change over time.
Privacy & Cookies
How we and our service providers handle your data
Information We Collect
You do not need an account to use the core service. Depending on the features you use and the technologies active on the site, we and our service providers may process limited technical and usage information, including:
- Website & server logs — IP address, browser/user-agent and device information, page URLs, timestamps, referral data, and security logs (handled by our hosting provider).
- Analytics — page views, feature usage, and interaction events. These may set cookies or identifiers and derive approximate location from your IP address.
- Search & scan events — the terms you search and the additives detected, together with approximate country/city and device type, to help us improve results and understand demand.
- Scans & images — see "Image & Scan Processing" below.
- Contact submissions — if you email us or use a contact channel, we receive your email address and message.
- Newsletter — if you subscribe, your email address is processed on a double opt-in basis by our email provider.
- Affiliate clicks — when you click an affiliate link, limited click and context data may be processed by us and the affiliate network.
- Cookies & local storage — see "Cookies & Consent" below.
IP addresses and persistent identifiers may be personal data even where we do not know your name.
Image & Scan Processing
Label scanning is processed in your browser using on-device OCR, so your images stay on your device and are not uploaded to us.
If you accept the consent banner, scan records may be linked to a random anonymous identifier so features like scan history can work. If you decline or ignore it, we record only identifier-free scan statistics (the additives found and whether the scan succeeded).
Why We Process Your Data
We use the information above to:
- Provide, run, and secure the service
- Respond to your enquiries
- Understand feature usage and improve results (analytics)
- Send our newsletter where you have opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time
- Prevent abuse and keep the service safe
- Support any partnerships or commercial arrangements
Third-Party Providers
We use trusted providers to run and improve the service. Each processes data under its own privacy terms:
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, security, and database (server logs, approximate geolocation).
- PostHog and Clicky — website analytics.
- Brevo — newsletter and email delivery, where you subscribe or contact us.
- Amazon Associates — affiliate links and click measurement.
We do not sell your personal data.
Cookies & Consent
We use cookies and browser local storage in the following categories:
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to function and to remember your consent choices.
- Preferences — remember settings such as theme and language.
- Analytics — help us understand feature usage (set only where you consent, if required in your region).
- Affiliate / advertising-related — support affiliate link attribution.
Where optional cookies require consent, you can decline or withdraw consent as easily as you gave it. You can also clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings.
Where Your Data Is Processed
We and our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed in different countries. We use established providers that maintain their own data-protection safeguards.

Depending on your location and the processing involved, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to certain processing

Voice Search Privacy
When you use voice search, your speech is processed by your browser's built-in speech recognition service. Depending on your browser, audio may be sent to the browser provider's servers (e.g., Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge) for processing. We do not receive, store, or have access to any audio recordings or transcriptions; this is governed by your browser provider's privacy policy.
Progressive Web App (PWA) & Caching
This site is a Progressive Web App that uses browser caching to store resources locally for faster loading. App files and the local scanning library are cached in your browser. All cached data is stored locally, is not shared with us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Our Approach to Privacy
We aim to collect only what we need, apply privacy-by-design principles, and handle your data responsibly. The rights and options available to you may vary depending on your location.

Affiliate & Sponsored Content Disclosure
How we handle commercial links and partnerships
Amazon Associates
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon. When you click a product link and make a qualifying purchase, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you.
Sponsored Content & Independence
Paid placements, sponsored content, affiliate links, and commercial partnerships will be clearly identified. Commercial relationships do not determine our halal verdicts — although a sponsored partner may supply evidence, that evidence is assessed under the same published methodology as everything else. We only feature products we believe are relevant and worth considering.
Other Affiliate Partnerships
We may participate in other affiliate or advertising programs from time to time. Where we do, affiliate links and any commercial content will be disclosed in line with applicable advertising and consumer-protection rules.
