UK Starburst was reformulated by Mars Wrigley in 2020 to remove gelatin entirely — it now uses a modified-starch binder and natural colourings (paprika extract, curcumin), and the pack is labelled 'suitable for vegetarians'. UK Starburst is therefore halal under the Sunni mainstream position. US Starburst still contains pork-derived gelatin (confirmed by Mars Inc.) and is haram. Some Middle East markets carry local halal certification.
