The Crescent Foods basis, honestly stated

Crescent is the same brand you will find at Walmart (Sam’s Club’s parent), Kroger and Meijer. Its certification page states: hand-slaughtered by Muslims, facing the Qiblah, overseen by the Shar’i Zabihah Committee (checked 30 August 2026).

The method is the strict one — hand zabiha, which every Sunni school accepts. On the audit side, Crescent’s plants hold a listing on the HMS registry (the Chicago hand-slaughter-only certifier), and the committee’s published contact matches HMS; the brand is not on HFSAA’s products list. Inside the club: standard label rules apply

For everything else in the warehouse, Sam’s Club is like any US big-box store:

Member’s Mark fresh meat — we found no halal certification; do not treat it as halal unless the individual pack says so.
Wild-caught fish and shrimp — halal by default (shrimp per the Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools and most contemporary Hanafi rulings on prawns; strict Hanafis differ).
Nuts, dried fruit, plain rice and oils — generally low-risk by ingredients; check flavoured or processed versions separately.
Bakery and sweets — read the ingredient list and look for a halal or suitable vegan mark rather than assuming the whole range is suitable.
Rotisserie chicken — not labelled or certified halal in the evidence we reviewed; do not assume it is halal.

The rulings this guide leans on converge across the four Sunni schools: hand slaughter by a Muslim with tasmiyah is accepted by all; fish needs no ritual slaughter; pork-derived gelatine is haram. The two school-divergent points are shrimp (permitted by Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali; classical Hanafi opinion restricts non-fish seafood, though prawns are widely permitted by contemporary Hanafi scholars) and machine slaughter, which does not arise here because Crescent’s poultry is hand-cut.
